August is here and with it, we are blessed with more great summer concerts. This week, the Lowell Summer Music Series boasts a pair of great shows: folk star Dar Williams on Friday and guitar virtuoso Derek Trucks on Saturday for a show co-sponsored by Boston Music Spotlight.

Both shows are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Boarding House Park in downtown Lowell. If you want to attend one of the shows, simply send us an email for a chance to win a pair of free tickets! Be sure to include what show you would like to attend.

Dar Williams is touring in support of Promised Land, which was released last fall. The album has since become the highest charting album of her career. The Chappaqua, New York native has strong ties to Massachusetts. She moved to Boston in 1990 before moving west to Northampton three years later, where she would launch her singing career and become a mainstay on the local scene.

The Derek Trucks Band released their sixth studio album, Already Free, in January. Trucks powers the band with his acclaimed guitar abilities while Mike Mattison delivers the lead vocals. Trucks is also a member of The Allman Brothers Band and husband to local blues great Susan Tedeschi. Opening the show will be Lowell’s own Jen Kearney & The Lost Onion.
