Shortly before embarking on a global tour to nations including Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands, singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright will pay a visit to the Boston Opera House next week. Tickets for the Tuesday, August 3 show are now on sale through Ticketmaster and range in price from $39 to $43. Martha Wainwright, Rufus’ sister, will open the show.

The Canadian native is touring in support of his last album, All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, which was released in March. The album focuses heavily on piano and vocals, and also features renditions of three of William Shakespeare’s sonnets: “Sonnet 10”, “Sonnet 20”, and “Sonnet 43.” It also serves as his first set of material written since the death of his mother, Kate McGarrigle, last January.

Off the stage, Wainwright is continuing to promote his Blackoutsabbath effort, which aims encourage fans to conserve energy usage by turning off lights, unplugging appliances, and walking or bicycling instead of driving. The most recent “Blackoutsabbath” even came last month on June 19, as participants turned off nearly every electronic device for the day. Wainwright pledges to continue the exercise next year.
