Video Spotlight: Newport Folk Festival Performers

For the first time in history, the Newport Folk Festival, which is scheduled for this weekend, has sold out tickets in advance of the event. Since some fans might miss out on seeing headliners The Decemberists, Elvis Costello, Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris, we thought we would give you a taste of what you are missing.

Celebrating its 52nd year, in addition to the headliners, the festival will feature a of veterans including Earl Scruggs, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Wanda Jackson and Mavis Staples, as well as more contemporary favorites such as Amos Lee, Gogol Bordello, M. Ward and Tegan & Sara.

Also set to perform in Neport are The Felice Brothers, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Justin Townes Earle, Delta Spirit, The Wailin’ Jennys, Freelance Whales, The Secret Sisters, Trampled by Turtles and The Civil Wars. Dar Williams, Ellis Paul, John Gorka and Liz Queler will team up for collaborative “song circle” set. Of course, the festival will feature a handful of bands with local ties including David Wax Museum, Mountain Man, the What Cheer? Brigade, Brown Bird, and Middle Brother, which features Rhode Island native and Deer Tick frontman John McCauley.
