VH1 Divas to return with pop stars

, Staff

After a four-year hiatus, VH1 has revealed plans for the return of their "VH1 Divas" special. Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Leona Lewis, and Miley Cyrus will all perform at the event, which is scheduled to take place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House on September 17. VH1 will air the show live at 9 p.m. Additional special guests are expected to be announced over the next few weeks.

The event’s return and focus on younger pop stars was surprising for many. However, for VH1, the decision was to focus on a new crop of stars. In a press release, a VH1 official stated: "Adele, Kelly, Leona and Miley have all captured the world’s attention with their talent and have earned their designation as VH1 Divas this year. Don’t let some of their young ages fool you – these women are among the best entertainers in the world and will continue to thrill music fans for a long time to come."

Fans are encouraged to go to Divas.VH1.com to submit a "Diva Stories" text or video testimonial that tells the world how their favorite diva has influenced their life.

VH1 Divas’ previous featured performers over the years have included Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Cher, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Chaka Khan and many more.

As in previous years, this year’s VH1 Divas special will raise funds for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
