Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr appeared at this week’s Microsoft’s E3 press conference to promote the highly anticipated The Beatles: Rock Band.

As BMS reported last fall, the Cambridge based company Harmonix Music Systems, MTV Games, and Apple Corps Ltd. developed a new video game based on the music of the Beatles that will not only include the full band set-up, but will also players to perform multiple vocals. The game will cover the entire career of the Beatles and the audience was treated to a sneak peak of the game as Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos led a demonstration of the Beatles song “Day Tripper”. The game’s trailer is available below.

Fans can play as any of the band members, which will be featured in avatars that will change in appearance depending on the time period. Venues will be based on the band’s historic career and including The Cavern Club (the Liverpool club where the band started), Abbey Road Studios, The Ed Sullivan Show, and New York’s Shea Stadium. Regular Rock Band peripherals will work fine but a special selection of iconic gear, such as McCartney’s Hofner bass guitar, from the band will be available for purchase. One new major component to the game will be the vocal harmonies, which for the first time win the game’s franchise will allow for more than one singer at a time.

The game will include 45 tracks but additional content, including full albums (the first being Abbey Road), will be made available through paid downloads. Songs confirmed thus far include: "Back in the U.S.S.R.", "Day Tripper", "Get Back", "Here Comes the Sun", "I Am the Walrus", "I Feel Fine", "I Saw Her Standing There", "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "Octopus’ Garden", and "Taxman". Fans with Xbox can exclusively download "All You Need is Love" and all proceeds from the song will benefit the Doctors Without Borders charity.

The Beatles: Rock Band will be released simultaneously for XBox 360, PS3 and Wii on September 9.&
