After speculation mounted across the country earlier this week with various billboards alerting fans to an announcement on Wednesday, the Rolling Stone have revealed plans this morning to kick off their “50 and Counting” tour next month. The legendary rocks will make their to Massachusetts for a performance at Boston’s TD Garden on Wednesday, June 12. Ticket information for the show has not yet been released.

“’50 and Counting’ has been pretty amazing so far,” said frontman Mick Jagger in a press release. “We did a few shows in London and New York last year…and had such a good time that we thought…let’s do some more. It’s a good show. Lots of the classic stuff everyone wants to hear…with a few little gems tucked in here and there. The stage is shaped like lips and goes off into the venue so I get to run around in the crowd. It’s great fun to be able to get that close to the audience.”

“From day one at rehearsals it sounded so fresh. You could tell that everybody was dying to get their teeth into it. It was like…open the gates…let us out!” added guitarist Keith Richards. “Cause man, it is the life and blood of us to play in front of people.”

Mick Taylor, who was a member of the Rolling Stones from 1969-74, will be a special guest throughout the tour alongside Jagger, Richards, drummer Charlie Watts and guitarist Ronnie Wood.

The “50 and Counting” will kick off in Los Angeles and hit Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, Anaheim, Toronto, Chicago and Philadelphia. Additional shows are expected to be added in each market. The band will also return to London’s Hyde Park on July 6, almost 44 years to the day of their first show at the Royal Park.

The Rolling Stones reunited last year for a handful of performances in London, New Jersey and Brooklyn to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Last week, it was announced that the band would headline the legendary Glastonbury festival in England this June. Their last major tour was “A Bigger Bang”, which grossed $558 million from August 2005 to August 2007.

Fans can expect a set packed with greatest hits and other classics, many featured on the band’s latest compilation, GRRR!. Released in November, GRRR! was released in a variety of formats including a 50-track/3-CD set and an 80-track/4-CD box set. Each contains two new songs titled “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot”. At the show, the band is also promising some “lesser know gems, and a cover or two”.

The stage design for the tour is based on the band’s ubiquitous tongue and lips logo, which extends out into the crowd.
