Ke$ha brings the sleaze to the Seaport

A review of Ke$ha at the Bank of America Pavilion on August 16, 2011

Ke$ha, the girl known for brushing her teeth “with a bottle of Jack” and telling everybody to “take it off”, appropriately titled her new tour “Get Sleazy”. Yet, despite her reputation and prior warning one just could not have anticipated how sleazy it could get at her appearance at the Pavilion on Tuesday.

The culmination of the sleaze came shortly before the encore as Ke$ha grabbed a seat to tell the tale of a relationship gone wrong after she wanted to take her man to the “bone zone” but he “just wanted to talk”. This real heart wrenching story led to “Grow a Pear”, which featured a dancer dressed as the aforementioned fruit prancing around some poor fan who was tied to a chair and doused with glitter. Of course, the song isn’t about fruit so things got even sillier once the dancer in a penis costume made an appearance. After a quick dosey doe with the member, Ke$ha got on her knees and motorboated the big costume testicles before playfully sack-whacking the defenseless fan with said testicles. As Don King would say, “Only in America”.

Ke$ha’s set was filled with the theatrics, but not always as entertaining as “Grow a Pear”. Her vocals were noticeably high and a textbook example of what Randy Jackson would call “pitchy”. Meanwhile, her unnecessary attempts at guitar playing on tracks like “Fuck Him He’s a DJ” and “Blah Blah Blah” were about as goofy as the choreography. She was better off stirring up the excitement with blasts of glitter from her drumming on “Party at a Rich Dude’s House” and riding a confetti cannon during smash hit ‘Tik Tok”.

The night ended in an unsurprisingly ridiculous fashion as a large man dressed as Santa led the crowd through The Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)” while the entire cast of characters from Ke$ha’s show, including the glitter queen herself sporting the Massachusetts state flag as a cape, caused a ruckus on stage as they tore a piñata to bits… Probably something along the lines of what Ke$ha’s dreams look like.

Openers LMFAO own this summer’s biggest hit with “Party Rock Anthem” and were able to keep the party going throughout their set with the same type of dirty humor that made their appearance with Ke$ha a match made in heaven. They didn’t have to say “sorry for party rocking”, but they should’ve apologized for the short shorts they sported.

Baltimore hip-hop group Spank Rock kicked off the night’s festivities.
