The Decemberists reveal plans for tour, new album

, Staff

The Decemberists have announced the first leg of their 2011 North American Tour in support of their forthcoming album, The King Is Dead. The indie rock favorites will play a pair of shows at Boston’s House of Blues on Friday, January 28 and Saturday, January 29. Tickets for both shows will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation for $29.50 and $39.50.

The King Is Dead, the band’s sixth studio effort, will hit stores on January 18. The new album marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band’s wildly ambitious 2009 concept album, The Hazards of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guests Gillian Welch on seven tracks and R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three tracks. The Decemberists will perform the new album’s lead single “Down by the Water” with Welch on Conan O’Brien’s newly launched late show Conan on TBS this Thursday, November 18.
