Irish rockers Snow Patrol are on break between albums but frontman Gary Lightbody is as busy as ever working on two side projects. The singer recently revealed details of the two new musical projects he’s taking on. Both projects are completely different from the other and Snow Patrol, with one dubbed “Listen…Tanks!” and having a distinct electro vibe and the other subbed “Tired Pony” and fueled by country music influences.

Earlier this month, Lightbody told BBC Radio Scotland that he’s recording both albums in the United States throughout January.

Lightbody will record the Tired Pony in Portland, Oregon with a band comprised of wife Miriam Kaufman, longtime producer Garrett ‘Jacknife’ Lee, Belle & Sebastian drummer Richard Coburn, Iain Archer and “two very special guests” (one of which has been confirmed to be R.E.M.’s Peter Buck. He explained the project as “countryish, country-tinged” and “taking elements from all parts of country music, I’m listening to a lot of Gram Parsons… I’ve loved new country for such a long time and I really wanted to do something in that kind of vein too. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Listen…Tanks! is an electro project comprised of Lightbody and Lee and is described by the singer as “a lot more LCD Soundsystem”, though he is still “just trying to get a handle on it.” He continued to say that the duo, who will also record their album this month, has “three or four electro songs that we’ve got and then three or four of these kind of crazy acoustic things.”

Lightbody assured fans that the side projects don’t mean the end for Snow Patrol and that his main band “to keep reinventing it interesting and keep it fresh.”
