Darius Rucker adds Lowell show to tour itinerary

, Staff Writer

Darius Rucker, former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman and current country music star, will take to the road this spring. With an already soldout show set for the Cape Cod Melody Tent in July and a stop at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro in August for the New England Country Music Festival, local fans will also have an opportunity to catch him perform in May. Rucker will stop in Massachusetts for a show at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, May 23. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $49.75 to $57.75, go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

Rucker, who was named the Best New Artist by the Country Music Association last year, was recently nominated as Top Male Vocalist for the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards. His solo headliner show at the Cape Cod Melody Tent last summer was ranked #9 on Boston Music Spotlight’s Top 29 Concerts of 2009.

He is currently in the studio with producer with Frank Rogers recording the follow-up to his country music debut album, Learn To Live.
