Wilco to play Boston’s Wang Theatre in September
After hosting their second annual Solid Sound Festival at the Mass MoCA last month to rave reviews, Wilco have revealed plans to return to Massachusetts in September as part of their fall tour. The Chicago-based rockers will play Boston’s Citi Wang Theatre on Tuesday, September 20. Joining them on the tour will be special guest Nick Lowe. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $35 to $45, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Telecharge.
The Boston show will take place just one week before the release of Wilco’s eighth studio album, The Whole Love. It follows the band’s 2009 Grammy-nominated Wilco (The Album) and was recorded at the band’s Chicago recording studio The Loft. The Whole Love features 12 new original tunes and is produced by frontman Jeff Tweedy with multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone and Berklee College of Music alumnus Tom Schick. It will be released through the band’s newly launched dBpm Records on September 27.
The Whole Love is being described by the band as a “veritable sonic stew, showcasing Wilco’s far-reaching musical prowess (multiple guitars, keyboards, synthesizers and percussion plus Mellotron, strings, loops and more) perfectly accompanying Jeff Tweedy’s provocative and insightful lyrics”.
The new album opens with the seven-minute “Art of Almost” and concludes with the twelve-minute epic “One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley’s Boyfriend)”. In between, fans will find 10 other tunes (each clocking in at four minutes or less) including the lead single, “I Might”.
As part of Wilco’s effort to discourage scalping and keep tickets affordable, there is a strict 4-ticket limit per person for the Boston show. Multiple purchases are forbidden and violation of this policy will result in the buyer forfeiting all purchased tickets. All tickets will be only be available for pick-up at the venue’s Will Call window on the day of the show and name changes will not be permitted. When arriving at the venue, fans must show the credit card used for purchase along with photo ID. Upon receiving the tickets, fans must then immediately enter the venue.
Update: Boston Music Spotlight is delighted to offer our readers the opportunity to purchase tickets through a special pre-sale on Thursday. Fans can purchased tickets through the pre-sale, which will take place from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., on the Citi Wang Theatre website by using the ticket code “BMSPOT”.
