Wilco to deliver request only set at Solid Sound

, Staff

Wilco have announced plans for a very special set at their Solid Sound Festival in North Adams this summer. Scheduled for the weekend of June 21 to June 23 at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Chicago-based rockers’ headlining set on Friday will be  comprised exclusively of fan-requested songs, including covers.

The band will take song submissions in advance and are promising fans they will learn fifty of those songs for the festival. Then, during the concert, approximately twenty songs will be selected live, at random, for Wilco to perform during its regular set. The encores will feature more fan-requested songs submitted via Twitter, as well as a live version of “Stump the Band” in which audience members will request songs and attempt to stump the band, a variation on the original “Stump the Band” segment featured on The Tonight Show. The Solid Sound version will feature modern-day comedic talent John Hodgman standing in for the late-great Johnny Carson, polling audience members for their best song challenges. The show will mark Wilco’s first-ever all-request concert. More information on how and when fans can submit songs for Wilco’s all-request set at Solid Sound will be announced at a later date.

Wilco will also deliver a headlining set on Saturday at the Solid Sound Festival. The third edition of Wilco’s curated festival will also feature Yo La Tengo, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Neko Case, Low, White Denim, Story Pirates, Os Mutantes, Foxygen,  Lucius and more. The full lineup is available below.

Fans can purchase 3-day passes for Solid Sound through the festival’s website for $149. Discounted 3-day passes for children ages 7-10 are available for $50, while children 6 and under will be admitted for free. A limited quantity of single-day tickets are also available for $65 (Friday and Sunday) and $85 (Saturday).

For this year’s festival, Solid Sound has expanded the space for on-site camping. They have also teamed up with Peter Pan bus transportation to offer round-trip transportation to the festival from Boston and New York City. More information is available on the festival’s website.

In 2010 Wilco, in collaboration with MASS MoCA created the Solid Sound Festival, a three-day event of music, art, comedy and culture. The festival garnered rave reviews and continued in 2012.

Wilco’s last offering of all new material was 2011’s The Whole Love.
