Organizers for “Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration”, the star-studded benefit concert held at the TD Garden last month, have annoucned that the event will be televised next week. WCVB Channel 5 will broadcast the concert commercial free from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 29.

Viewers will have the opportunity to make donations to The One Fund Boston during the entire broadcast. WCVB Channel 5 has donated all of prime time to the broadcast and John Hancock Financial has underwritten the expenses associated with preparing the show such that all proceeds will be donated to The One Fund Boston.

The event, which was held on May 30, generated over $2 million dollars for The One Fund with net proceeds from ticket sales, retail and concession sales. The donation, so far, is the largest from a single source to The One Fund Boston, set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15.

Boston Strong featured sets from hometown legends Aerosmith, James Taylor, New Kids on the Block, The J. Geils Band, Boston, Extreme and Dropkick Murphys, along with Jimmy Buffett, Jason Aldean and Carole King. Boston-bred comedians Dane Cook, Steven Wright, Lenny Clarke and Steve Sweeney also performed.

The sold-out event, which was criticized by many for not airing live on television, was streamed live on several websites but encountered several technical errors during the night due to the overwhelming traffic.
