Vampire Weekend are back in the spotlight with the announcement of a new album due this spring and subsequent tour. The indie-rock favorites from New York will hit Massachusetts for a concert at Boston’s Agganis Arena on Wednesday, May 15. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $36 to $43.50, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

Modern Vampires of the City, Vampire Weekend’s third studio album and follow-up to 2010’s Contra, is scheduled to hit stores on May 6. The band spent more than 20 months writing and recording the new album with sessions taking place in New York City, Martha’s Vineyard and Los Angeles.

“We tried all different ways of working,” said lead singer Ezra Koenig in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, “little by little, until we reached a point where we could feel awesome about every song.”

The upcoming tour will include appearances at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California and the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. The Boston show will be preceded by shows in London and Paris.
