Trey Anastasio has revealed plans for a tour in support of his forthcoming solo album, Traveler. The Phish frontman will return to Boston for a performance at the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, October 27. Tickets for the show will go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $39.50 and $49.50.

Traveler, Anastasio’s ninth solo album, is scheduled to be released on October 16. Anastasio, who began recording Traveler after Phish wrapped up its 2011 summer tour, co-produced the album with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, J√≥nsi) in Katis’ Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It features several guest artists including Mates of State’s Kori Gardner, The National’s Bryan Devendorf and Matt Berninger, and Icelandic percussionist Samuli Kosminen. Scabbard, the first single from Traveler, is streaming below.

“My goal was to create an album that used the studio as an instrument,” explained Anastasio in a press release. “I wanted to work with Peter because he is a master at creating a sonic landscape. We were hoping for a cinematic end result.”

Along with his solo release and duties with Phish, Anastasio has been busy with another music project. Together with Amanda Green (High Fidelity), Anastasio wrote the music for “Hands On A Hardbody”, a new musical by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright that premiered at La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, California in May. The musical will make the jump to Broadway for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
