To celebrate their 50-year legacy, The Who have announced plans to return to the road next year for a massive world tour. The legendary classic rockers will hit Connecticut on their first leg of their North American outing next spring, while fans in Massachusetts will have to wait for a second leg in the fall. The Who will first perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Sunday, May 24. Tickets for the concert will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $109 and $145. They’ll return to the area for a concert at Boston’s TD Garden on Thursday, October 29. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $49.50 to $149.50, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. A variety of limited VIP packages will be available for each of the shows. One dollar from each ticket sold will benefit Teen Cancer America.Guitarist Pete Townshend described the tour in a press release as “Hits, Picks, Mixes and Misses” with promises of performing all their classic anthems as well as tackling deeper cuts. Along with the tour, The Who have announced plans for a new greatest hits compilation. Set for release on October 27, Who Hits 50! will serve as the definitive collection of the band’s greatest hits. It will include selections from throughout their catalogue, from their very first recordings as The High Numbers right up to the present day with the brand new track “Be Lucky”.

“This is the beginning of the long goodbye,” declared lead singer Roger Daltrey. Townshend also acknowledged the band’s current state. “Trying to stay young. Not wearing socks. Growing a great big Woodcutter’s beard. Might even wear a check shirt on stage and get a tattoo of a Union Jack. Always a fashion victim. But under no illusions. We are what we are, and extremely good at it, but we’re lucky to be alive and still touring.”

The Who’s last offering of all new material was 2006’s Endless Wire.
