The Old 97’s will hit the road this spring in support of their latest release, The Grand Theatre, Volume One. The alt-country veterans will play Boston’s Royale on Friday, April 8. Tickets for the show are now on sale through Ticketmaster for $20. Teddy Thompson will open the show.

Inspiration for The Grand Theatre, Volume One, the band’s eighth studio album, came during lead singer Rhett Miller’s solo tour of Europe last year. “When I started in this band, I wrote on the road constantly, but I was 23 then, so everything was new to me,” explaiend the 40-year old Texan in a press release. “Over the years, those strange and wonderful things have begun to feel more commonplace. But on this tour, I was in England and Ireland and Scandinavia, places where I haven’t spent very much time in, and because of that things seemed somehow fresh. I felt recharged. It was all very inspiring instead of tiring.”

The band is planning to release volume two of The Grand Theatre later this year.
