Tenacious D have announced plans for a summer tour in support of their first studio album in over six years, Rize of the Fenix. The comedic rockers will hit Boston for a concert at the Bank of America Pavilion on Monday, July 2. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $30 to $40, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation. Detroit rockers The Sights will open the show.

Rize of the Fenix
, Tenacious D’s third studio album and follow-up to 2006’s The Pick of Destiny, will be released on May 15. Produced by John Kimbrough, it features Tenacious D’s core duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, as well as bassist John Spiker, guitarist John Konesky and Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums.

In a press release, Tenacious D described the making of the album as “journey similar to that of Gandolph in The Lord of the Rings.” The album marks a return from the band’s hiatus after the film “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny” flopped in the box office. “There we no more bouncers waving us through the velvet ropes, we were persona non gratta,” said Black. Gass added, “There we were- just like Gandolph the grey, down in the muck- but we never gave up. We defeated our own personal demons and began chipping away, slowly climbing back to the land of the living- when we emerged we were no longer the old Tenacious D, we were Gandolph the white, with new powers and wisdom and bravery and skills.”

Tenacious D recently released a video entitled “To Be the Best,” which details a comical version of the band’s reunion and features cameos from Val Kilmer, Jimmy Kimmel, Tim Robbins and Maria Menounos. You can watch it below.
