Tanglewood adds more mainstream shows to lineup

The summer concert season at Tanglewood continues to heat up with another slate of mainstream acts scheduled to perform at the Lenox amphitheater. Fans in Western Massachusetts will now be able to see Joan Baez, Indigo Girls, Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five, Guster, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Josh Ritter and the Steve Miller Band perform at the summertime home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Tickets for each of the shows are now on sale through the venue’s website.

Joan Baez will join forces with the Indigo Girls for a handful of performances this summer, including a stop in Lenox for an afternoon show at Tanglewood on Sunday, June 23. With material from over 20 studio releases to pick from, fans can expect a diverse setlist from the legendary folk star. Her last offering of all new material was 2008’s Day After Tomorrow. Indigo Girls’ last studio release was 2011’s Beauty Queen Sister. Tickets for the show range in price from $23.50 to $69.50.

Barenaked Ladies will team up with Ben Folds Five and Guster for the “Last Summer on Earth” tour, which hits Tanglewood on Tuesday, July 23.    The Canadian pop-rock favorites are putting the finishing touches on their twelfth studio album and follow-up to 2010’s All in Good Time. The yet-to-be-named album will hit stores on June 4 and features lead single “Boomerang”. Fans will receive a voucher for a free download of the album with each ticket purchased to the upcoming tour. Ben Folds Five reunited last year for their first tour and studio album in over a decade, The Sound of the Life of the Mind. Guster self-released Live Acoustic, a collection of 16 live recordings from various shows during their 2012 acoustic tour, in January. Tickets for the show range in price from $27.50 to $79.50.

Tanglewood will host a pair of New England-bred favorites when Grace Potter and the Nocturnals with special guest Josh Ritter perform on Monday, August 19. The pride of Vermont continue to tour in support of their latest album, 2012’s The Lion The Beast The Beat. Released in June, the band’s fourth studio effort and follow-up to their 2010 self-titled release debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200. Ritter will be promoting his brand new album, The Beast In Its Tracks. Released earlier this month, the singer-songwriter’s sixth studio effort and follow-up to 2010’s So Runs The World Away features lead single “Joy To You Baby”. Tickets for the show range in price from $23.50 to $52.50.

The Steve Miller Band will hit Lenox for a night Tanglewood on Monday, July 29. Miller continues to tour in support of his latest releases, 2011’s Let Your Hair Down and 2010’s Bingo!. The two albums, both comprised of blues and R&B covers, was recorded at the same time and served as the band’s first studio release since 1993’s Wide River. Tickets for the show range in price from $25.50 to $79.50.

Previously announced mainstream concerts scheduled Tangelwood include Melissa Etheridge (Friday, June 21) and Jackson Browne with special guest Sara Watkins (Thursday, July 4). Tanglewood will present the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration, a new symphonic project celebrating American musical icon Jerry Garcia, featuring Warren Haynes with the Boston Pops under the direction of Keith Lockhart on Saturday, June 22. Also, Esperanza Spalding will bring her “Radio Music Society” tour to Tanglewood’s Seiji Ozawa Hall on Sunday, August 4.
