With another Christmas release on the way, Sufjan Stevens has revealed plans for a special tour before the holidays. Dubbed “The Sirfjam Stephanapolous Christmas Sing-A-Long Seasonal Affective Disorder Spectacular Music Pageant Variety Show Disaster,” the tour will stop in Boston for a night at the Royale on Thursday, December 20. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $20. There will be a limit of four tickets per a household. Iron and Wine collaborator Rosie Thomas will open the show under her standup comedy alias Sheila Saputo.

Backed by a five-piece band, Stevens will deliver a set full of Christmas music. “All Grinches be forewarned: the show will consist entirely of Christmas music, inviting audience participation,” read a press release announcing the tour. “Be prepared to sing along with bawdy bravura! Song sheets will be provided. There should be plenty of low-production props and gags, dollar-store giveaways, inflatable unicorns, cheap confetti, make-shift costumes, and Gloria in excelsis deo. Wear a santa hat, bring a flask (and a friend) and join the Sufjan Christmas Spectacular Sing-a-long in drunken revelry.”

Stevens will be touring in support of his forthcoming second set of Christmas albums, Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10. Scheduled to hit stores on November 13, the five-EP box set is comprised of 58 songs. It follows his first set of Christmas music, Songs For Christmas, which was released in 2006. Together, the two sets contain a total of 100 songs. Recorded between 2006 and 2010, the songs were originally intended as gifts for family and friends. It features collaborations with Aaron and Bryce Dessner (The National), Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Cat Martino (Sufjan’s right-hand woman on all things Age of Adz), Sebastian Krueger (Inlets), Gabriel Kahane, Vesper Stamper, and members of Danielson. The box set, available in either CD or Vinyl format, will be packaged with several extra goodies including Christmas stickers, temporary tattoos, a paper ornament, an pull-out poster, photos, illustrations, extensive liner notes and more. Silver & Gold will also be available as a digital download.

Stevens’ last full-length studio release was 2010’s The Age of Adz. The singer-songwriter’s sixth studio effort debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 and became his best selling album.
