Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks set winter trek

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks will return to the spotlight in 2014 with a new album and tour. The California native, best known as the singer/guitarist for indie rock heroes Pavement, will lead the Jicks to Boston for a night at the Paradise Rock Club on Tuesday, February 25. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at noon through Ticketmaster for $20.

Wig Out at Jagbags, the band’s sixth album and first since 2011’s Mirror Traffic, will be released January 7. Fans can get a taste of the 12-track album with lead single “Lariat”, which is streaming below.

In a press release, Malkmus explained the inspiration behind the album. “Wig Out At Jagbags is inspired by Cologne, Germany, Mark Von Schlegell, Rosemarie Trockel, Von Spar and Jan Lankisch, Can and Gas; Stephen-Malkmus-imagined Weezer/Chili Peppers, Sic Alps, UVA in the late 80’s, NYRB, Aroma Charlottenburg, inactivity, Jamming, Indie guys trying to sound Memphis, Flipper, Pete Townshend, Pavement, The Joggers, The NBA and home life in the 2010’s …”
