Music Circus and Melody Tent schedule takes shape

Summer is just around the corner and the concert season is heating up for fans in Massachusetts. Organizers for summer concert series at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis and the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset have added a handful of new shows to their swelling lineup.

Willie Nelson, Josh Turner, The Celtic Tenors, Ronan Tynan, John Hiatt and Steve Earle will each perform at both venues, while Bret Michaels, Colbie Caillat, Gavin Degraw, Lyle Lovett and Brandi Carlile will make stops in Hyannis. Tickets for all of the shows are now on sale through Ticketmaster.

At 79, Willie Nelson is still going strong and will hit Massachusetts for shows in Hyannis on Thursday, June 21 and at Cohasset on Friday, June 22. The country legend will be touring in support of his forthcoming album Heroes, which will hit stores on May 15. Produced by Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, Chris Young), the album is comprised of covers and new songs by Nelson and his son Lukas. The selection of covers focus mostly on classic country songs, as well Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe” and Coldplay’s “The Scientist”. Special guests on Heroes include Merle Haggard, Snoop Dogg, Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson, Billy Joe Shaver Ray Price and Sheryl Crow. Tickets for each of the shows are now available for $56.25 and $75.25.

Josh Turner will return to the Melody Tent and Music Circus again in 2012. He’ll perform in Hyannis on Friday, July 13 and in Cohasset on Sunday, July 15. The country singer will be touring in support of his forthcoming album, Punching Bag. Turner’s fifth studio effort and follow-up to 2010’s Haywire will be released on June 12. The album’s lead single “Time Is Love” is already making waves on country radio and is ranked in the Top 20 on Billboard’s Top Country Songs chart. Tickets for each of the shows are available for $37.25 and $56.25.

The Music Circus and Melody Tent will host an evening of Irish music when The Celtic Tenors and Ronan Tynan deliver co-headlining performances in Cohasset on Friday, August 10 and in Hyannis on Sunday, August 12. Comprised of Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson, The Celtic Tenors will be promoting their new album, Feels Like Home.Tynan, who now resides in Boston, rose to fame with The Irish Tenors. Last year, he released the compilation album All Kinds of Everything. Tickets for each of the shows are available for $36.75.

John Hiatt and Steve Earle are teaming for a co-headlining summer tour that will include stops at the Music Circus and Melody Tent. The two will perform in Cohasset on Thursday, August 16 and then in Hyannis on Friday, August 17. Hiatt continues to tour in support of 2011’s Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns, while Earle will also promote a 2011 release with I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive. Tickets for each of the shows are available for $38.25 and $57.25.

Taking a break from Poison’s tour with fellow 80’s rock favorites Def Leppard, Bret Michaels will stop in Hyannis for a solo performance. The Poison frontman will perform play the Melody tent on Thursday, July 12. Michaels will deliver Posion classics along with his solo material, including his forthcoming solo album Get Your Rock On. Tickets are available $44.25 and $63.25.

Colbie Caillat and Gavin Degraw will bring their co-headlining tour to the Melody Tent on Thursday, July 26. Both artists will be tour in support of their third studio album, which were released last year. DeGraw will be promoting in support of his third album Sweeter, which features singles “Not Over You” and “Sweeter”. Caillat intends to showcase material off All of You including singles “I Do” and “Brighter Than the Sun”, the latter of which is the most licensed new song of the decade. Tickets are available $45.75 and $64.75.

Lyle Lovett will make his way to Massachusetts and perform a show for fans in Cape Cod on Thursday, August 2. The four-time Grammy Award winner will be touring in support of his brand new album, Release Me. Released in February, the album debuted at #9 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Tickets are available for $42.25 and $61.25.

Brandi Carlile will be on the road this summer to promote her forthcoming album, Bear Creek. The singer-songwriter will perform at the Melody Tent on Friday, August 3. Scheduled to hit stores on June 5, Bear Creek was named after the Seattle studio in which it was recorded. The album was co-produced by Carlile, her longtime bandmates The Twins (Tim and Phil Hanseroth) and Grammy Award-winning mixer Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Queens of the Stone Age). Tickets for the show are available for $43.25.
