Showcase Live, located at Patriot Place in Foxboro, will cease its live music operations at the end of the year. The 16,000-square-foot club, which opened in August 2008, will remain open but turn its focus to private functions and special events.

“We are currently evaluating our live music programming. We will continue to operate Showcase Live, hosting special events and corporate meetings at the venue,” explained Rachel Lulay of National Amusements in a statement. “We are working to find employment opportunities within our organization for any employees affected by this policy change.”

The venue, which had a capacity of 500 to 1,000 depending on its setup, hosted an array of acts in all genres from rock to country and blues to hip-hop. It was also became a hotspot for some the region’s top tribute acts, but ultimately suffered the area’s stiff competition.

Upcoming shows before the end of the year include Jars of Clay, Johnny Winter, Jonny Lang, Uriah Heep and The Smithereens. The last show of the year will take place on New Year’s Eve with Queen tribute Almost Queen and AC/DC tribute Dirty Deeds.
