Schedule set for Saturday’s Radio 92.9 EarthFest

The weather forecast is calling for sunshine, just in time for Radio 92.9’s 20th annual EarthFest concert on Saturday. The free day-long festival will take place at Boston’s Hatch Memorial Shell and feature music from Vertical Horizon, Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Fastball and hometown favorites Gentlemen Hall.

The festival’s main stage will kick off with the Todd Biggins Band, who earned the opportunity by winning the a battle of the bands competition over final contestants AJ Edwards & the List, Theory 13 and Last One Out.

EarthFest will also feature an interactive family area called “Kids Planet”, which will feature a musical line-up specifically aimed at children under age 12 as well as environmental activities and educational displays. Performances at Kids Planet will begin at 10:45 a.m. and feature Josh and the Jamtones, Zumix, Super Cool Beans and Fiddlin’ Quinn and the Big Folks Band.

Presented by Whole Foods Market, Radio 92.9 calls the free festival “a celebration for the Earth, showcasing national and local music acts, environmentally friendly products and local non-profit environmental organizations”.

In addition to all the music, the event will host environmental non-profits from across the country and the “Market Vendor Village” with free samples.

In addition to the music and environmental activities taking place at the festival, Radio 92.9 will be collecting donations for The One Fund Boston, an organization set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. The station is asking festival attendees to donate at least $1 to One Fund Boston. Individuals can donate by visiting  or to donate $10 instantly, text “Boston” to 80108.

With an expected crowd of more than 100,000 people, EarthFest attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the free bike valet service offered by MassBike or use public transportation. The DCR Hatch Shell is accessible by MBTA (Green Line to Arlington Street or Red Line to Charles Street / MGH). Attendees should also be aware that the DCR has updated entry and safety protocols for this year’s event. Backpacks, coolers, blankets, large bags or open containers will not be allowed into the festival and all bags will be subject to a discretionary search. Small bags and necessary items such as strollers will be allowed in with checks.
