Last year, Rodrigo Y Gabriela joined forces with the 13-piece orchestra C.U.B.A. for Area 52. It marked their first collaboration with another group and features nine of Rodrigo y Gabriela‚Äôs favorite songs from their own catalogue re-arranged for the orchestra, giving the duo’s signature Latin-metal-jazz hybrid a whole new sound. Produced by Peter Asher, recording for Area 52 took place in the Miramar district of Havana, Cuba, at Abdala Studios, founded by the Cuban folk hero Silvio Rodriguez, as well as at the duo’s home studio in Ixtapa, Mexico.
