Punch Brothers have announced plans for a special two-night stand in Massachusetts. The progressive bluegrass favorites will play the Somerville Theatre on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24. Joining them will be special guest and Boston native Aoife O’Donovan (of Crooked Still). Tickets for the show are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website for $25.

The tour continues the band’s promotion of their second album, Antifogmatic, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart and #3 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart after its release in June 2010. Produced by Jon Brion (Brad Mehldau, Elliott Smith), Antifogmatic was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood during the winter of 2009–2010. The album’s 10 songs were written collaboratively by the band. A special deluxe edition of the album is also currently available. Included in this package is a four song instrumental EP, All of This Is True, as well as a seven song DVD, “Live from the Lower East Side: It’s p-Bingo Night!”, which was filmed during the band’s residency at The Living Room in New York City.

Punch Brothers are comprised of Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Thile (mandolin and lead vocals) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle). The band last performed in Massachusetts over the summer when they played Lowell’s Boarding House Park as part of the Lowell Summer Music Series.

In related news, Pikelny will soon launch a solo tour in support of his latest release, Beat The Devil and Carry A Rail. He’ll perform at the Brighton Music Hall on Wednesday, December 14. His band will include Eldridge and O’Donovan, both of whom perform on the new album.
