Phish will kick off its 2012 summer tour with a two-night stand in Worcester. The Vermont-based jam band will perform at the DCU Center on Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8. Tickets for each of the shows will go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $60.

On April 21, Phish will release Junta, its first full-length studio album, as a limited edition deluxe 3-LP vinyl set. Junta, which marks the band’s second release in conjunction with Record Store Day, will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores. Originally self-released on cassette tape in May 1989, Junta was remastered and re-released as a double CD and cassette in October 1992. It was subsequently certified platinum but, until now, has never been heard on vinyl. Each LP will be pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and a free MP3 download of the entire album (transferred from the new vinyl master) will be included.

The Massachusetts shows will serve as warm-up for the band’s headlining slot at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee on June 10.

Phish’s last offering of new material was 2009’s Joy. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the album marked the veteran jam band’s return after a four year break.
