Eddie Vedder plots solo release, tour

Eddie Vedder will hit the road this summer for a month-long tour in support of his forthcoming solo album, Ukulele Songs. The Pearl Jam frontman will play Boston’s Citi Wang Theatre on Thursday, June 16. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Telecharge for $78. Joining Vedder for the tour will be special guest Glen Hansard of The Swell Season and The Frames.

Ukulele Songs will be released on May 31 through Pearl Jam’s Monkeywrench Records. The album is a collection of original songs and covers performed by Vedder on ukulele. Hansard and Cat Power contribute guest vocals on the album. The first single from Ukulele Songs, “Longing to Belong”, is available now digitally.

Also on May 31, Vedder will release a live concert DVD, Water on the Road. Directed by Brendan Canty of Fugazi and Christoph Green, the film chronicles performances from Vedder’s shows at Washington D.C.’s Warner Theatre on August 16 and 17, 2008. The DVD features a live performance of “You’re True” from Ukulele Songs as well as a mix of Pearl Jam catalog, covers and songs from Vedder’s first solo album, Into The Wild.

Vedder will kick off the tour on Wednesday, June 15 at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island. Tickets are $78 and will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through the venue’s box office and website.
