Local bands to rock Patriot Place again this summer
Patriot Place will once again showcase some of the area’s best up and coming bands this summer with the Rock The Plaza concert series. Returning for it’s second year, the free outdoor concert series will bring a variety of bands and artists to Patriot Place for performances on the plaza next to Gillette Stadium.
For the second year, Boston-based Self Proclaimed Rockstars will kick off the series when they take the Rock the Plaza stage on Saturday, May 1. Other early highlights in the series are 19-year-old “America’s Got Talent” contestant Mia Boostrom (May 2) and a special Mother’s Day performance by Santa Mamba (May 9). Returning acts from 2009 include The Lights Out (May 15), Midatlantic (June 27), Aloud (July 10), Girls Guns & Glory (July 17) and Sarah Blacker (July 17). Newcomers for 2010 include Lion Of Ido (May 16), T.A.S.T.E. (May 22), Mission Hill (June 27), Blizzard Of ’78 (July 11) and Highway Ghosts (July 18). More acts are will be added over the coming months and the full schedule to date is available below.
As part of the 2010 series, Patriot Place will host the First Annual High School Band Brawl, a head-to-head competition among the region’s best high school bands, on Sunday, June 6. At the daylong event, selected bands area high school bands will perform 15-minute sets of original music. A panel of judges will select the winner based on overall sound, stage presentation and fan support and reaction. The winning band will receive a donation to its high school’s music program, a chance to open for local favorites Keep Me Conscious and a guest spot on WBZ-TV’s Totally Patriots television program.
All bands seeking consideration for the Band Brawl must complete the submission process by May 21, 2010, and finalists will be selected and notified at the end of May.
