Folk duo Over the Rhine have announced dates for their annual holiday tour. The husband-wife team of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist will kick off the tour with a show at the Berklee Performance Center on Friday, December 2. Tickets for the show are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website for $19.50 and $22.50. The Milk Carton Kids will open the show.

In addition to songs from the band’s older holiday albums The Darkest Night of the Year and Snow Angels, fans will also get a chance to hear tracks from Over the Rhine’s latest release, The Long Surrender. The fan-funded record, the band’s tenth studio effort, was produced by Grammy Award-winner Joe Henry and features a duet with Lucinda Williams called “Undamned”.

“With The Long Surrender, our vision was to make a recording we couldn’t imagine in advance,” Detweiler said in a press release. “We wanted to be surprised. We wanted to remain open, let the record unfold in real time. Fortunately, Joe loves to be surprised as well.”

The album “speaks to our ongoing desire to let go of certain expectations -and much of what we are so convinced we know for sure – in favor of remaining open and curious,” Bergquist added. “It seems like so many of our friends are currently wrestling with various forms of ‘letting go,’ so hopefully, the ideas conjured by the title feel somewhat universal.”
