Nils Lofgren will swing through New England this month in support of his forthcoming solo tour, Old School. The guitarist, best known for his role in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, will perform shows in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Lofgren will first play Providence’s Fete Music Club on Saturday, October 22, and follow it up with a performance at the Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury the next night. Tickets are available at each venue’s website for $40 to $65 and $30 to $35, respectively.

Old School, which is expected to hit stores by the end of the year, features 11 brand new original songs and one cover. It features special guest appearances by Paul Rodgers, Lou Gramm and Sam Moore.

Old School has many different types of songs and feels, some rough bluesy tracks to haunting acoustic songs,” explained Lofgren in a statement on his website. “There’s some interesting and controversial characters in these songs and I look forward to your reactions to them. I finally included my ‘Irish Angel’ cover, the great Bruce McCabe song I’ve been singing for years in the acoustic shows. Also, years ago I wrote a ballad with Root Boy Slim, an old friend and great DC area artist, that I’ve always wanted to share but never got it together until now. Sadly, Root Boy’s not with us any longer, but I know there’s fans out there that will appreciate this touching, haunted country type ballad of ours.”

Though Lofgren has played with the E Street Band since 1984, he has also maintained a busy solo career. He’s also know for his work with Neil Young, as well as Lou Reed.

As for a new release for the E Street Band, Lofgren recently told Billboard, “There’s no plan. Of course that’s a sign for me to get back to my own thing, which I’m doing. But as a giant fan of the band, of course I’m hoping that changes and there’s another chapter in our history.”
