Newport Sunset Series reveals festival lineups

Organizers for the Sunset Music Series in Newport, Rhode Island have revealed the full details for their Blues & BBQ and Celtic Rock festivals. Both day festivals, which started last year, will each return to the Newport Yachting Center with the likes of the James Cotton Blues Band and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes sure to please blues fans, while the Dropkick Murphys and Eileen Ivers will give something for Celtic fans of all ages to enjoy.

Returning for its second year, the Newport Blues & BBQ Festival will take place on Saturday, July 20. The James Cotton Blues Band, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes and Matt “Guitar” Murphy with Rick Russell & the Cadillac Horns will all perform at the festival, as well as New England favorites Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters and Quinn Sullivan. Along with the great blues, the festival will offer a variety of pit-masters dishing out some of the best barbeque in the area. General Admission tickets for the festival, which will begin at noon, are now on sale through Ticketmaster for $45. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted for free. Fans can also upgrade their tickets with the “BBQ Alley Pass” for $30, which will grant them a choice of four different tastings of BBQ specialties. For $100, fans can purchase the limited “Whole Hog Pass”, which will offer a reserved seat in the elevated Reserved Deck with cocktail service, a complimentary cocktail and a BBQ Alley Pass.

Dropkick Murphys will headline the second annual Newport Celtic Rock Festival on Saturday, August 24. Eileen Ivers will return, as will the Screaming Orphans and Town Pants. Kicking off the show will be Celtica. Along with the music, attendees can enjoy Irish step-dancers, Irish wolfhounds, a children’s area, a marketplace of goods and traditional pub fare. General Admission tickets for the festival, which will begin at noon, are now on sale through Ticketmaster for $35. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted for free. For $75, fans can purchase a VIP pass that will provide access to the elevated Reserved Deck seating with cocktail service, 2 Guinness beer vouchers, and a Swag Bag featuring the official Celtic Rock Festival t-shirt.

Though no headliner has been confirmed, the Newport Waterfront Reggae Festival will return for its fourth year this summer. Scheduled for Saturday, August 10, reggae legends Chuck Fenda, Bushman, Anthony B, Wait for Green and DJ Realm & Jah Soldier of OmegaSound have been confirmed for the event. General Admission tickets for the festival, which will begin at noon, are now on sale through Ticketmaster for $35. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted for free. Fans can also purchase the “Rocksteady Pass” for $75, which will a reserved seat in the elevated Reserved Deck with cocktail service and a complimentary cocktail.

Tickets for each of the festivals will offer fans flexible re-entry throughout the day, allowing fans to explore downtown Newport at their will.
