Newport Sunset Music Series finalizes lineup

Summer is just about here and organizers for the Sunset Music Series in Newport, Rhode Island have finalized their summer concert lineup. Los Lobos, David Cassidy, Lyle Lovett and Cowboy Junkies have all been added to the 2012 lineup. Tickets for each of the shows, which take place at the Newport Yachting Club in downtown Newport,  are now on sale through the venue’s box office and website.

Los Lobos will bring their signature brand of Latin-fused rock to Newport on Friday, July 13. The veteran ban from California continues to promote their most recent release, 2010’s Tin Can Trust. Tickets for the show are available for $24 and $44.

One of pop culture’s most celebrated teen idols as member of the hit 1970’s TV show The Partridge Family, David Cassidy will perform at the Newport Yachting Center on Saturday, July 21. His last offering of all new material came in 2003 with A Touch of Blue. Tickets for the show are available for $24 and $44.

Lyle Lovett will make his way to Rhode Island for a show in Newport on Friday, August 3. The four-time Grammy Award winner will be touring in support of his brand new album, Release Me. Released in February, the album debuted at #9 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Tickets for the show are available for $51 and $71.

Canada’s Cowboy Junkies will perform in Newport as part of the Sunset Music Series on Saturday, August 4. The band continues to tour in support of their latest project, The Nomad Series, a collection of four albums released over a year and a half between June 2010 and December 2011. Tickets for the show, which will also feature special guests Pousette-Dart Band, are available for $22 and $42.

Barrington Levy will headline the 3rd Annual Newport Waterfront Reggae Festival, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 11. Also performing at the day-long festival will be Junior Marvin of Bob Marley’s Wailers, Bushman, Taj Weekes & Adowa, and Mighty Mystic & The Thunder Band and The Ravers. General admission tickets for the festival are available for $35.

In other news, Marcia Singer has been added to the inaugural Newport Blues & BBQ Festival, joining Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker Jr., Shemikia Copeland and Joanne Shaw Taylor at the Saturday, August 18 festival.

The Fab Four, a renowned tribute to The Beatles, will close out the Sunset Music Series in Newport on Friday, August 1. Tickets are available for $25 and $45.

Previously announced Newport Sunset Music Series shows include Ziggy Marley (June 29), Badfish (July 6), “Classic Rock Rewind” with Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer and more (August 10) and k.d. lang and The Siss Boom Bang (August 17) and the Celtic Rock Festival with Gaelic Storm, Eileen Ivers and more (August 25).
