Organizers for the annual Newport Folk Festival have revealed the first batch of performers for this year’s event. Nickel Creek, Band of Horses and Mavis Staples highlight the initial list of performers set for the 55th edition of the historic festival, which will take place from July 25 to 27 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island.

Jenny Lewis, The Oh Hellos and Benjamin Booker will also make their Newport Folk Festival debuts, while Shovels & Rope, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Houndmouth are all confirmed for return visits to Fort Adams State Park. Rhode Island’s Death Vessel will offer the festival a local flair. Organizers will continue to reveal more performers over the next few months as part of their rolling lineup announcement process. The lineup to date for each day is available below.

Three-day passes for the 2014 Newport Folk Festival are available through Ticketmaster for $199. Single-day tickets are also available for Friday ($59) and Saturday ($85), while single-day tickets for Saturday as well as 2-day passes for Saturday and Sunday are sold out. Discounted children’s tickets are available for youth ages 3 to 12 (children under 3 are free), but must be purchased in conjunction with an adult ticket. All festival seating is general admission.

Nickel Creek recently announced they will end their hiatus and reunite to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary with a special spring tour. The bluegrass favorites will release a brand new album later this year. No release date for the untitled album, their sixth studio effort and first since 2005’s Why Should the Fire Die?, has been scheduled but fans can get a taste of the new material with lead single “Destination”.

Band of Horses recently released Acoustic at The Ryman, a 10-song virtual greatest hits set of acoustic renditions of songs recorded at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium over two nights in April 2013.

Staples, who last performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 2011, is touring in support of her latest album One True Vine. Released last June, the singer’s thirteenth studio effort and follow-up to 2010’s You Are Not Alone was recorded in Chicago with Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy producing and performing many of the instruments. Staples has a long history with Newport and subsequently, in her honor with the help from some special guests, the festival will celebrate “75 years of Mavis” throughout the weekend.
