MGMT to play Providence in May

MGMT have revealed plans to return to the road this spring as they prep for the release of their forthcoming third album. The electro-pop favorites will stop in Rhode Island for a show at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel on Wednesday, May 1. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at noon through eTix for $28.50.

On the tour, the duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser are expected to preview material off the forthcoming follow-up to 2010’s Congratulations. The band has been actively working on the release for the past year with producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mogwai) at Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York. The album is tentatively scheduled to hit stores in June.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Goldwasser explained, “We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it.”
