Megadeth make plans for Massachusetts

Megadeth will return to the road this fall to promote their latest album, Super Collider. The upcoming trek will swing through Massachusetts for a show at Boston’s House of Blues on Sunday, December 1. Tickets for the concert, which will also feature special guests Fear Factory and nonpoint, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster for $35 and $45.

Super Collider, Megadeth’s fourteenth studio effort and follow-up to 2011’s Thirteen, was released in June through frontman Dave Mustaine’s own label, Tradecraft. It debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200. The album was recorded in California and co-produced by Mustaine and Johnny K (Staind, Sevendust). David Draiman (of Disturbed and Device) provides guest vocals on “Dance in the Rain”, while the band also covers Thin Lizzy’s “Cold Sweat”. The video for the title track and lead single is steaming below.

“That song kind of came from that ‘Symphony Of Destruction’ corner of my mind,” explained Mustaine in a recent interview with Guitar World magazine. “You can’t always play aggressive, thrashy stuff. Sometimes those aren’t even songs; they’re like musical rams. But because I’m not a pop guy, I’m also not really comfortable playing sing-along songs. To me, ‘Super Collider’ made sense like a normal song — a verse-chorus-verse-chorus kind of thing. It’s written the way a real songwriter would write the song, instead of just taking all these musical twists and turns.”

Super Collider marks the first Megadeth album since 1997’s Cryptic Writings not to feature a lineup change from the preceding album. The band’s lineup currently features Mustaine, original bassist Dave Dave Ellefson, drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick.
