With a new album in the works, Mastodon have revealed plans to return to the road this spring. The hard rock favorites will stop in Massachusetts for a show at The Palladium in Worcester on Friday, May 16. Tickets for the concert, which will also feature openers Gorjira and Kvelertak, are now on sale through Ticketfly for $25.

Mastodon are currently completing work on their sixth studio album and follow-up to 2011’s The Hunter. The band are reportedly working with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) in Nashville with hopes of releasing it sometime later this spring.

In a recent interview with Loudwire, drummer Brann Dailor took time to describe the new album.

“It borrows from everything we have done,” he said. “I feel like whenever we write a new record or go into the studio, we always pick something from that or find something that we like from the previous albums or songs and then there is the fact that we cant really change who we are as musicians and what we kind of gravitate towards naturally together. So it sounds like us — some super duper heavy stuff. It’s heavier stuff than we’ve done in the last two albums. This one sort of reminds me of, as far as the collection of songs, reminds me a little more of Blood Mountain. It has some elements from all the albums in there, but then there’s lots of new stuff that I don’t recognize at all.”

Released in September of 2011, The Hunter was recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles with producer Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Avenged Sevenfold). It debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200 and lead single “Curl of the Burl” earned a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” category.
