Lowell Folk Festival reveals initial lineup

Organizers for the Lowell Folk Festival have revealed plans for the historic festival’s 25th anniversary celebration including the event’s initial lineup. Scheduled to take place from July 29 to 31 throughout downtown Lowell, this year’s festival lineup is highlighted by traditional Irish veterans Dervish and acclaimed blues favorite Shemekia Copeland.

Also on the bill are: Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun, Eddie Pennington, Hector del Curto’s Tango Quartet, Le Vent du Nord, Michael Cleavland & Flamekeeper, Stanky & The Coal Miners, The Birmingham Sunlights and The Quebe Sisters Band. More performers will be added to the lineup over the next few months. Taking place across six outdoor stages, the Lowell Folk Festival is the largest free folk festival in the nation.

The Lowell Folk Festival will begin on the evening of Friday, July 29 with a kick-off parade, music and ethnic foods at two performance stages, the Dutton Street Dance Pavilion and Boarding House Park. The festival kicks into high-gear on Saturday and continues on Sunday, running from noon to 6 p.m. on both days.
