After serving eight months in jail, Lil Wayne is heading home. The rap superstar was released yesterday from New York’s Rikers Island jail complex after completing his sentencing for attempted weapon possession.

“I was never scared, worried nor bothered by the situation” behind bars, Lil Wayne said in a recent blog post on Weezythanxyou.com, a website he used to update with information on his life in jail. “For that, I thank God, my family, and you, my amazing fans….I thank you all for being so very supportive, as I never imagined how much impact my words and life can have. With this knowledge, I vow to continue to be me! For you have assured time that I don’t have to change for no one but God. I will be the same Martian I was when I left, just better.

Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter Jr., pleaded guilty in October 2009 to teh charges, admitting he had a loaded, semi-automatic .40-caliber gun on his bus after a concert in New York City.

While in jail, Lil Wayne’s latest album, I Am Not a Human Being, was released. After spending time in Florida with his family, he plans on promoting the album and getting started on new material including the highly anticipated, Tha Carter IV.
