Lil Wayne makes big plans for Providence

Lil Wayne has added a New England stop to his upcoming “I’m Still Music Tour” with a show now scheduled to take place at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Wednesday, March 16. Joining the rap superstar will be Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Travis Barker and Mixmaster Mike. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $49.75 to $109.75, are now on sale through Ticketmaster.

The Multi-platinum and Grammy-award winning recording artist recently released “6 Foot 7 Foot”, the first single off his heavily anticipated The Carter IV album, which is slated for a Spring 2011 release via Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown Records. Produced by Shondrae “Bangladesh” Crawford and featuring a verse from Young Money newcomer Cory Gunz, the song features Lil Wayne rhyming over a sample of Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat Song (Day-O)”.

In February of 2010, Lil Wayne released his seventh studio album Rebirth, which focused primarily on rock tracks. The next month, he began serving an 8-month prison sentence in New York after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon stemming from an incident in July 2007. While in jail he released another album I Am Not a Human Being in September, which featured special guests including Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Twist.

Minaj continues to tour in support of her 2010 debut album, Pink Friday. Ross released his fourth album, Teflon Don, last summer and is gearing up for another release later this year. Barker, best known as the drummer for punk rockers Blink-182, is gearing up for the release of his debut solo album. Give the Drummer Some will feature a wide of guests including RZA, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Raekwon, Tom Morello, Slash, Steve Aoki, Pharrell, Clipse, Kid Cudi, Yelawolf, Snoop Dogg and Drake.
