Join the Pops & celebrate the 4th of July in style
On Sunday, for the 37th year, the Boston Pops will lead the city in a massive 4th of July celebration at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. Country superstar Toby Keith will join conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra as this year’s special guest. Fans can expect the two forces to combine for a unique takes on a few of Keith’s biggest hits, including “American Soldier”.
Also on July 4, the Boston Pops will release a CD featuring the live recording of the world premiere performances of The Dream Lives On: A Portrait of the Kennedy Brothers, which took place at Symphony Hall May 18 & 19 with guest narrators Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, and Cherry Jones, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, under the direction of Keith Lockhart. Composed by Peter Boyer with Tony Award-winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens, The Dream Lives on celebrates the legacies of the three influential and inspiring Massachusetts native sons. The album also includes a new recording of the Boston Pops signature, John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. The CD will be sold along the Charles River Esplanade, as well as the Symphony Shop and online at Amazon.com, iTunes and CD Baby. Additionally. The Dream Lives On will be performed during the July 4 concert with WBZ-TV’s Jack Williams and Lisa Hughes, and acclaimed local actors Will LeBow and Jeremiah Kissel.
The concert will be televised locally by WBZ TV and nationally by CBS with host Craig Ferguson of The Late Late Show. An open dress rehearsal will take place on Saturdya without fireworks.
