John Mellencamp will kick off the fall leg of his “No Better Than This” tour in Boston. The legendary singer-songwriter will play the Citi Wang Theatre on Tuesday, October 25. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $47.50 to $125, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Telecharge.

Mellencamp is touring in support of his release, No Better Than This, which was released last summer on Rounder Records. The album was produced by T Bone Burnett, who he collaborated with on his prior release, 2008’s Life, Death, Love and Freedom. It was recorded at a variety of historically significant locations around the South. Mellencamp launched the “No Better Than This” tour at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in February.

Fans can expect a roughly 24-song/2+ hour performance that will find Mellencamp using numerous configurations ranging from solo acoustic to full-tilt rock with his band. Mellencamp’s backing band is comprised of Michael Wanchic (guitar), Andy York (guitar), Miriam Sturm (violin), John Gunnell (electric and upright bass), Dane Clark (drums and percussion) and Troye Kinnett (accordion/keyboards).

There will be no opening act for the show but rather a screening of Kurt Markus’s film “It’s About You”. The film documents Mellencamp’s 2009 summer tour of minor league ballmarks with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and the recording sessions for No Better Than This. Additionally, a selection of his paintings will be on display in the lobby.

A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $250 and include one reserved ticket located in the first 10 rows from the stage, a t-shirt, collectible tour poster, limited vinyl copy of No Better Than This and a commemorative tour laminate.
