John Mayer reveals plans for new album, tour

In April, John Mayer will kick off his first U.S. tour in about two years. Supporting his forthcoming album, Born and Raised, Mayer will perform at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island on Wednesday, April 18. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $54 to $89, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through the venue’s box office and website.

Born and Raised
, Mayer’s 5th studio effort and first since 2009’s Battle Studies, will hit stores on May 22. Produced by¬† Mayer and Don Was (Elton John, The Rolling Stones), the album’s title track will feature guest singers David Crosby and Graham Nash. “Shadow Days”, Born and Raised‘s lead single will hit iTunes on March 6. Mayer will also receive instrumental keyboardist/pianist Chuck Leavell, bassist Sean Hurley and drummer Aaron Sterling.

Following the show in Rhode Island, Mayer will travel south to Connecticut for a show at the Oaskdale Theatre in Wallingford on Sunday, April 22.

On tour, Mayer will be joined by guitarist and vocalist David Ryan Harris, guitarist Doug Pettibone and percussionist Michito Sanchez.

The upcoming shows will mark Mayer’s return to the spotlight after a undergoing surgery last fall to treat a troublesome granuloma (a small area of tissue inflammation) that was located just above his vocal cord.
