John Mayer reveals summer tour with Phillip Phillips

, Staff

After cancelling his tour plans last year due to the return of a serious throat condition, John Mayer has announced plans to return to the road to promote his latest album Born and Raised. Joined by special guest Phillip Phillips, the pop rock veteran will perform at the Comcast Center in Mansfield on Saturday, August 17. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation for $37.50 and $79.50.

The summer outing will mark Mayer’s first major tour in three years. Mayer, who was first put on extensive vocal rest in 2011, was forced to cancel a planned tour last year when a granuloma in his throat grew back. At the time, Mayer indicated he would instead spend the time working on another new album.

Born and Raised, Mayer’s fifth studio effort and follow-up to 2009’s Battle Studies, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 after its release last May. It also reached #1 in five other countries and #1 on iTunes in 30 territories worldwide. Produced by Mayer and Don Was (Elton John, The Rolling Stones), the album is led by singles “Shadow Days” and “Queen of California” (streaming below). Born and Raised also includes a handful of special guests including David Crosby and Graham Nash on the title track, as well as trumpeter Chris Botti on “Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967”.

Prior to the show in Massachusetts, Mayer will perform at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut on Friday, August 16. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Live Nation for $36 and $75.

Phillips, last year’s American Idol winner, is touring in support of his debut album, The World from the Side of the Moon. Released in November, it has been powered by the smash hit “Home” and its follow-up single “Gone, Gone, Gone”.
