Jeff Tweedy highlights free L.L. Bean Concert Series

L.L. Bean will once again host a slate of free concerts at its flagship store in Freeport, Maine this summer as part of its annual “Summer in the Park” program. Highlighting the list of scheduled performers is Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, while Toad the Wet Sprocket, Josh Ritter, The Mowgli’s, Jason Isbell and Brett Dennen will also rock Discovery Park.

Toad the Wet Sprocket will kick off the L.L. Bean concert series on Friday, July 4 as part a weekend full of activities celebrating Independence Day. The California pop-rockers are on the road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album Bread & Circus, as well as to promote their brand new album New Constellation. The band’s sixth studio effort and first in 16 years was released last October after a successful crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter.

Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band will stop in Freeport on Saturday, July 12. The veteran singer-songwriter continues to tour in support of his latest album, 2013’s The Beast In Its Tracks. The album, his sixth studio effort and follow-up to 2010’s So Runs The World Away, debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200 after its release in March of 2013. Recorded during 2011 and 2012 at the Great North Sound Society in Parsonsfield, Maine, it features lead single “Joy To You Baby” and continues Ritter’s longtime collaboration with producer and keyboard player Sam Kassirer.

Tweedy, best known as the foudner and frontman for veteran rockers Wilco, will release a new album called Sukierae on September 16. The album is not quite a solo effort bur rather the debut of a new project with his son. The debut from the aptly-monikered duo Tweedy features 20 new Jeff Tweedy-written songs, performed by Jeff in a musical collaboration with his 18-year-old son and drummer Spencer Tweedy. For the upcoming tour, Jeff will backed by a newly-formed band featuring Spencer on drums, Darin Grey on bass, Jim Elkington on guitar and Liam Cunningham on keyboards.

The Mowgli’s will perform in Freeport on Saturday, August 2. The California alt-rockers continue to tour in support of their debut album, Waiting for the Dawn. Released last June, it features hit singles “San Francisco” and “The Great Divide”.

Isbell’s summer tour plans include a show at L.L. Bean on Saturday, August 30. The alt-country singer-songwriter and former member of of the Drive-By Truckers, is touring in suupport of his new album, Southeastern. Released last July, Isbell’s fourth studio effort was recorded following a stint in rehab with producer David Cobb. It earned loads of critical acclaim and landed on many year-end lists for best albums.

Each of the concerts is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
