Janet Jackson has announced dates for her “Number Ones, Up Close and Personal World Tour”, including one stop in New England. The pop icon will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Wednesday, March 16. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $50 to $70, are now on sale through Ticketmaster.

During the six-week tour, Jackson will celebrate the release of her 2009 greatest hits compilation Number Ones by playing selections from her thirty-five #1 singles in thirty-five different cities around the globe, dedicating one song to each city. The Connecticut show will be one of Jackson’s biggest in the United States as most of the other dates will take place in more intimate theaters and concert halls.

“Each of you are so important to me,” Jackson declared in message to her fans. “These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done. I will be as up close and personal as possible. These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I’ll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you’ve made number ones for me. Let’s go!”

Jackson said she will also recognize twenty young people whose lives and work “have enriched their communities in a major way.” Fans can submit individuals to be recognized through Jackson’s website.

In other news, Jackson’s upcoming self-help book “True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself” is set for release on February 8.
