James Taylor to play Fenway Park with Bonnie Raitt

After several visits, James Taylor will finally perform a full concert at Fenway Park next summer. Joined by very special guest Bonnie Raitt, the legendary singer-songwriter and Massachusetts native will perform at the legendary ballpark on Thursday, August 6. Tickets for the concert, which range in price from $50.50 to $130.50, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Tickets.com. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to Action for Boston Community Development.

Taylor, who was born in Boston and now lives in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, has previously performed the national anthem at Fenway Park during the World Series in 2004, 2007 and 2013.

Though no official announcement has been made, Taylor is expected to release a his first new album in over a decade next year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Songwriters Hall of Famer has been working on a new album over the past year and has even previewed some of the new material at recent concerts. In a video message to fans announcing the Fenway Park concert, Taylor revealed that one of the new songs is called “Angels of Fenway” and was inspired from the Red Sox 2004 Word Series Championship.

Taylor’s last studio release was 2008’s Covers, while his last offering of all new material was 2004’s October Road.

Raitt’s last studio release was 2012’s Slipstream. The veteran singer/guitarist’s sixteenth studio release and follow-up to 2005’s Souls Alike, won a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album. The 12-track album features four songs recorded with producer Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Solomon Burke) and his musicians, while the remainder of the album is self-produced with her touring band. Special guests Bill Frisell, Al Anderson, Maia Sharp and Paul Brady also make appearances on the album. Slipstream features a handful of covers and is led by Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down The Line”, which served as the album’s lead single.

As previously reported, Taylor and his All-Star Band will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Thursday, December 4. Tickets for the concert are available through Ticketmaster for $75 and $115.
