Harmonix scores exclusive deal for Jimi Hendrix on Rock Band

Jimi Hendrix’s music is coming finally coming to the video game world thanks to an agreement between Harmonix and the estate of the legendary guitarist. The deal gives the Cambridge-based company and MTV Games exclusive use of Hendrix’s material for their Rock Band games.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s classic album, Axis: Bold As Love, along with the new Jimi Hendrix single, “Valleys of Neptune” from the new album of the same name are now available through the Rock Band Music Store. Additionally music will be added over the next few months. Individual tracks are $1.99 each, while the full Axis: Bold As Love album will be sold for $19.99.

“Much like Jimi’s music, we feel that Rock Band represents an amazing, innovative medium for music discovery and interaction that can have a profound affect on those who experience it,” said Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC in a press release.  “We are extremely pleased to be able to have Jimi Hendrix’s genius musical legacy continue to live on and touch people the world over through Rock Band.”

According to Rolling Stone Magazine, the deal also gives Rock Band a possible inclusion of a Hendrix avatar, replica instruments, and even a stand alone game similar to that of The Beatles Rock Band.
