, Staff

The old WBCN Rumble may be gone but the Hard Rock Cafe is filling the gap by hosting an expansive Battle of the Bands for the opportunity to win a spot onstage at Hard Rock Calling 2010, one of the the U.K.’s most anticipated music festivals. The competition starts tonight and will take place over the next four Thursdays.

The winners of each night will move on to a final round to be held on Friday, April 30. Five bands will perform 20-minute sets each night before a panel of judges with the winner getting another 20-minute encore set to close out the night. All shows are 18+ and there will be a $5 cover to benefit the Music Drives Us Foundation. The complete lineup of bands with estimated set times is available below.

The Ambassadors of Rock Battle of the Band is part of nationwide competition with a three-round format. One winner from each participating city will be evaluated by a panel of artists and music industry professionals, who will choose the finalists. Leading the distinguished panel will be Head Judge Little Steven Van Zandt of the legendary E Street Band. The panel will also include Doug Brod, editor of SPIN Magazine; Toby Leighton-Pope, Vice President of Promotions, Live Nation UK; and 2009 Ambassadors of Rock Battle of the Bands winner Rudy Vaughn of The Rudy Vaughn Band.

The final stage of the competition will then be turned over to the fans, who will be able to vote for a favorite on www.hardrock.com between May 25 and June 6. The top vote getter will then perform at Hard Rock Calling, a three-day concert festival in London’s Hyde Park taking place from June 25 to 27, will be headlined by rock legends Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam, and will also feature performances by Wolfmother, Ben Harper & Relentless 7, The Hives, The Gaslight Anthem and many more.
