Guitar greats to hit Hampton Beach on ‘Experience Hendrix’ tour
The eighth edition of the celebrated Experience Hendrix Tour is set to launch next month and will include a pair of stops in New England. An all-star cast of musicians will pay tribute to the guitar icon at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire on Thursday, March 27. Tickets for the show, which range in price from $35 to $85, are available through Ticketmaster.
Leading the way will be blues icon Buddy Guy and guitar greats Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The show will also feature performances from Bootsy Collins, Dweezil Zappa, Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Gales, Ana Popovic, Henri Brown, Dani Robinson, Stan Skibby, and Massachusetts native Quinn Sullivan. The rhythm section, as always, includes bassist Billy Cox, the only player, apart from Jimi Hendrix himself, who was part of both the Band of Gypsys and the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Chris Layton, the drummer who, along with the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, was a founder of Double Trouble.
In terms of format, the tour offers multiple opportunities for performers and audiences to witness unique collaborations among the participating artists, and will highlight these artists and the others performing their favorite Hendrix signature songs including “Little Wing”, “Fire”, “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”.
Following the show in New Hampshire, the tour will travel south to Connecticut for a performance at the Palace Theater in Waterbury on March 29.
“It’s always a great thrill and honor for me to play Jimi’s music for audiences now just as it was in the 1960’s,” declared Cox in a press release. “The ‘Experience Hendrix’ tours have shown how timeless this music really is and is just wonderful that we’ve continued to get an infusion of new, very enthusiastic artists to participate and are able to offer the most wide-ranging Jimi Hendrix-related repertoire possible.”
